A HAT TRICK of wins by Peter Rhodes was the performance of the day by Kendal AAC youngsters in the U11 and U13 age groups at the Cumbria League in Carlisle.

They were joined by seven others in the U13 to U17 groups in wet conditions at the event.

Peter Rhodes, who is in his fourth year of competing for the club and he is still just an U13, gained wins in the 100m (13-5s), long jump (4m60) and high jump (1m40).

He also anchored the 4x100m relay team of Ben Craghill, Michael Holcroft and Jamie Postlethwaite to a second place.

Jamie also had an excellent debut scoring third place in the long jump (3m73) and fourth in the 200m final in 33-1s (32-5s in heat).

In the U15 girls, Katie and Claire Huck, fresh from the English Schools Championships, as expected took first and second places in the high jump.

However, for the first time it was Katie who snatched the honours from her sister, beating Claire with a PB of 1m55 on the third attempt, with Claire on 1m50.

Katie then went on to take second place in the 200m, with Claire in third, both with the same time of 14-0s.

Claire did retaliate in the long jump, however, her jump of 4m60 gaining her second place.

There were scoring places also in this age group for Melanie Whalley and Caroline Holmes, with third in the high jump (1m30) and fourth in the 800m (2m54s) respectively.

Katie then anchored these four to second place in the relay.

There were excellent performances also by the two eldest Kendal athletes, U17s Ashleigh Moore and Jonathan Stobbart.

Ashleigh usually competes over the hurdles, but tried her hand at 300m flat and was rewarded by first place and a PB of 43-2s.

She also gained second place in the long jump (4m56).

Jonathan, in his favoured event of triple jump took second place with 11m42 and also ran well in the 200m, coming third in 25-4s.

The U13 girls and the U11s were all 'debutantes', mainly from primary training group.

U13s Gemma Crowther and Nicola Wightman both qualified for the 200m final and fought a close run race for third place, with Gemma' s 33-1 just pipping Nicola's 33-3s (32-7 in heat).

Gemma also took fourth place in the 800m in 2m51s.

Adele Fletcher and Maddy Williams joined them in the relay to gain another second place for the club.

The U11 boys relay team of Chris Presho-Morgan, Cameron Roberts, Peter Holgate and Will Voke came third.

Will also did well to make the 70m final, with a run of 11-9s and Cameron took a fourth place in the long jump with 3m00.

Also competing in this age group were Adam Maxwell and Robert Hebblethwaite and one U11 girl, Kirsty Chaplow, whose 12-0s run in the 70m was unlucky not to qualify for the final.
