APPLEBY lost home advantage when the Westmorland Inter-Club Championship had to be switched to Windermere due to the foot-and-mouth outbreak, but they still took the Senior Championship for the first time on an opponents' course.

Kendal captured the Junior Championship on 324.5 points from Windermere on 327 and Appleby on 358.5.

Kendal junior held a slight lead after the foursomes with 128.5 points ahead of Windermere (136) and Appleby (148.5).

Kendal's Oliver Wilson and Chris Gibbons had the best gross score with 72s.

Best singles gross and winners of the Graham Andrew Shield was by Windermere's Andrew Waple with a 68.

When the seniors did battle Appleby won the Championship Shield on 631 points with Windermere runners-up on 638 and Kendal third on 659.

Appleby drew slightly ahead in the foursomes with the club's Andrew Morrison and Adam Elliott posting the best foursomes score of 67.

Elliott also recorded the best singles score with another 67.

Among the veterans, Kendal's Harry Simpkin had the best score of the day to win the Graham Andrew Salver with a 74.

Kendal and Windermere tied on 229 points for the Veterans Championship with Appleby in third place this time on 247.

KENDAL'S monthly medal, sponsored by Bay Radio, attracted 180 entries and Steve Atkinson took the Division 1 prize with a score of 72-9-63 with Stephen Whitehead (75-10-65) runner-up on the card from Rick Rylands (77-12-65) in third and Eric Worsley and Bill Jermy.

Best gross went to Len Cornthwaite with a 71.

Garry Archer (76-13-63) took Division 2.

Andrew Armstrong (91-27-64) was runner-up on the card from George Bedford (82-18-64) and junior member Matthew Marshall.

Best gross went to Colin Bickerstaff on 78 after a card play-off with Peter Atkinson.

The 19-28 handicap prize went to junior member James Atkinson (86-19-67).

Graham Crisp (81-11-70) won the play-off for the David Aitken Memorial Trophy.

Garry Archer (87-15-72) was runner-up.

Kendal Ladies Section's Ladies Captain's Day competition, a Stableford, was won by Lorraine Bell on 36 points after a card play-off with Margaret Dean, who was runner-up, and Sue Howell, in third place, also both finishing on 36 points.

Liz Airey was fourth and Ann Unthank fifth, on the card after finishing on 35 points.

Rosie Waller, 83-15-68, won the medal sponsored by Bay Radio with Victoria Warwick, 105-36-69, second and Barbara Metcalf, 90-17-73, third.

Maureen Glover led the returns in the medal sponsored by Macbeth Scott and Co with 86-26-60.

Rosie Waller was runner-up with 81-16-65 and Vicky Thompson third with 97-21-66.

Reed, who recorded a score of 77-11- 66, took the prize on a countback with 15-year-old Sam Shuttleworth, who carded 75-9-66.

Jim Coooper (83-16-67) was third, Ronnie Dowall (74-06-68) fourth and Ken Ayre (84-15-69) fifth.

DAVE WILKINSON collected the Founders Day Trophy at Casterton Golf Club from Captain Evan Jones after a day of good scoring in ideal weather on Saturday.
