FELL RUNNING returns to the Lake District when the Borrowdale Fell Race gets the go-ahead to take place on Saturday, August 4.
It is the first race to be run over open fell since the blanket ban imposed because of the foot-and-mouth outbreak in February.
Entry is on the day for the 17-mile, 6,500ft contest which starts from Rosthwaite at 11am.
The race organisers have consulted the National Trust, the land-owners and farmers, said Kendal-based Pete Bland, who is former manager of the England fell-running team and has years of experience organising similar events.
" It's a sign of things getting back to normal and I expect other races will follow," he said.
