THE CUMBERLAND View Westmorland League team beat their Palace Shield counterparts by 14 runs in the seventh annual match between the sides at Garstang CC on Sunday.

Batting first, Westmorland recovered posted a respectable 168-4 thanks largely to Ricky Nelson's unbeaten 76.
Fine bowling and fielding had Shield on the rack in reply as they faded from a potential attacking position at 90-2 at the halfway stage.
Their two main run-scorers were run out and then Paul Wilson took two wickets in his opening over as Shield were dismissed for 154.
