Funding for the Barrow Education Action Zone has been extended for an extra two years following improvements in results.

EAZ's were set up three years ago and are a partnership between parents, schools, businesses, Local Education Authorities and Learning and Skills Councils to raise standards in schools in deprived areas.

Barrow Community Learning Partnership has been working on new initiatives with 21 schools in the town for the last three years and because of its success it has been one of only 45 in the country granted extra funding of £500,000 from the Department of Education and Skills to run for an extra two years.
