Twenty thousand tonnes of slate block will be removed from a Lakeland quarry over 10 years if a planning application is approved.
Burlington Slate Ltd has applied to the Lake District National Park Authority for permission to extract silver-grey slate at Low Brandy Crag Quarry, Coppermines Valley, Coniston.
LDNPA planning officer David McGowan said the extraction would be achieved by lowering the floor of the existing workings by 15 feet.
The application is accompanied by an environmental statement, detailing the process of slate quarrying, including information about how the slate rock is transported to the Kirkby-in-Furness Burlington Slate site where processing takes place.
This document, and details of the application, can be viewed at Coniston Tourist Information Centre or at LDNPA's Murley Moss offices, in Kendal.
The application is expected to be discussed by the LDNPA on September 4.
