KENDAL CC made an incredible comeback to snatch victory from Preston with all-rounder Kevin Howarth proving the hero of the hour in Saturday's Bay Northern Premier League match.
The Shap Road team looked washed up at 73-6 in pursuit of Preston's score of 180, but Howarth remained unbeaten on 70 and wicketkeeper Alan Fawcett made 54 as they put together a century partnership that got them home at 182-7 with a few balls to spare.
Howarth had also shone with the ball taking 5-50 as Preston pro Pervez Shah hit an unbeaten 101.
Netherfield's lead at the top was cut to two points after they were restricted to a winning draw at St Annes.
Professional Strydom made a top-scoring 128 out of 242-5, but they could not dismiss St Annes who were 218-7 in reply.
