SPACE age technology on motorway bridges will cut the road salt menace which is eating away at the 30-year-old concrete structures.
During a 10-week period from August 5, pioneering work will begin on six overbridges between junctions 38 and 39, around Shap.
The Highways Agency said once existing corrosion was removed, the bridges would be wrapped in fibre-reinforced polymer to keep them salt-free.
Throughout the operation, there will be a 50 mph speed limit and traffic will be restricted to two lanes.
Minor delays are expected.
