TWO hi-tech speed signs that inform drivers they are driving too fast have been installed at the scene of two fatal and one serious accident during the past five weeks on the A595 at Low Newton.
The Highways Agency has been working with members of the community to put together a road safety scheme, which is to be installed later this year, and includes reducing the speed limit to 40 mph between Ayside and the Cartmel junction.
But following the three accidents during the last five weeks the Highways Agency decided something needed to be done immediately on the busy stretch of road, which is used by 16,000 vehicles each day.
The new signs, which have been in operation since Saturday, flash 'slow down', to drivers who are exceeding the speed limit of 60 mph for cars and 40 mph for heavy goods vehicles through Low Newton.
The Highways Agency is also planning to install a device within the next week that will run across the road to monitor the volume of traffic.
