DISTINGUSIHED Cumbrian musicians are tuning-up and dropping-in at Hawkshead Parish Church for the last in their 34th series of summer concerts at the church.

On Tuesday (August 21) 11-year-old Cheshire violinist Jennifer Pike (pictured below) will be notching up another performance in her already distinguished career.

The young virtuoso has performed in America, played for Prince Charles at a high achievers concert in the Royal Opera House and won a host of top music awards including the Liverpool Instrumental Student of the Year award.

At Hawkshead she will be playing Beethoven and Schubert sonatas and works by Bach and Kreisler with top concert pianist Andrew Wilde.

Wilde himself has had a busy career performing as a soloist with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Halle and Royal Liverpool Philharmonic orchestras among others.

His recordings have been broadcast on Radio 3 and in Europe and the States.

The following Tuesday (August 28) the concerts draw to a close with a finale bringing together new music from local composers.

Roland Fudge, the well-known violinist, teacher, composer and all-round mover and shaker on the local music scene for the past 25 years will be rounding off the proceedings with a performance of his own piece 'Swaggerton's Exuberance'.

Performances of pieces by eminent composers Christopher Gibbs, Gary Higginson, Arthur Butterworth, Robin Field and Adrian Self will be creating a distinct and novel music for a summer evening.

Both concerts strike up at 8pm.
