ANTHEA Kendrick from Windermere had won one of the six places in the British squad heading for the TREC World Championships in Belgium in four weeks' time.
Kendrick rode a promising young mare Larkswood Fantasia at the English Champiosnhips on Salisbury Plain and the British Championships in Shropshire.
The new pairing proved their worth by winning the orienteering sections at both competitions and, by tightening up the skills needed in other sections, they moved up from fourth overall at the Eng.lish Championships to second overall in the British Championships.
In Shropshire, Kendrick led the English team - which included Mike Myers from Flookburgh - to victory in the Nations Cup against experienced Scottish and Welsh competitors.
For the second year running there is no funding for the British team to travel to Belgium, so Anthea and her family are saving hard to be able to transport the horse and pay the entry fees.
Also this year a World Championships (16-18-year-olds) will be held at the same venue in Belgium.
Another Cumbrian, Becky Hinte from Outgate near Hawkshead has been chosen to represent Britain at this event.
n Chloe Field, 11, a pupil at the Lakes School will compete at the Horse of the Year Show at Wembley in October after qualifying at the Scottish Horse Show, writes Malcolm Bewsher.
Chloe finished third in the open show hunter ponies with the 13 hands pony Linksbury Valentino.
The combination also won at the British Elite last year and was runner-up and reserve champion in the Area 2b Blue Riband Qualifier.
Chloe also teamed up with Brockholm Royal Vagabond to win the Nursery Stakes at Royal Lancashire Show and was a top winner at the BSPSA Area 1a Show at Redcar and qualified for next year's Royal International at Osbaldeston.
Jenny Edmondson from Levens Bridge was also on top form at the Scottish Show when taking her second Wembley qualifying class in the 13 hands working hunter riding Oldcourt Amadeus, which was also reserve champion.
Jenny qualified for Wembley two weeks ago at the Royal Lancashire.
Riding five-year-old Smartie at the Scottish Show, Jenny won the Cnnemara section working hunter and reserve novice champion rosettes on only her second outing
with the pony.
Arkholme owner June Horsfall was delighted to see her pony Spinningdale Arabella qualify for Wembley in the 148cm show pony section at Royal Lancashire.
She also had a third with Deaconwood Gold Print.
Jane Clark from Farleton and a member of Oxenholme Pony Club qualified for Wembley at Royal Lancashire with her intermediate working hunter Fair Courage, while Emma Boardman had a second in the intermediate riding type with Yealand Othello bred by Babs Ruchwaldy.
Janet Chadwick from Endmoor had a good win and took reserve champion with her pure-bred Arab, Viktra.
