SOUTH Lakeland District Council has been fined £10,000 after a road sweeper driver emptied pink-coloured liquid and waste paper into a drain which fed onto the banks of the River Kent.
Magistrates said they believed the incident was likely to happen at any time, and that drivers were not given clear instructions.
The council pleaded guilty to disposing of controlled waste at Burneside, without a waste management licence.
