A SERIES of summer schools has taken place across the county's higher education institutions and further education colleges to provide alternative summer activities for young people who might have found seasonal work in the tourism industry if it was not for the foot-and-mouth outbreak.
The scheme, organised through Cumbria Connexions, has been available to everyone in the county aged 16 to 25.
The Cumbria Learning and Skills Council found funding so the young people received £40 per week grant while they undertook the courses.
The workshops were called make a film, play in a band and put on a play.
