FUND-RAISER Melanie Vause will be in the swim as she aims to boost the coffers of two charities, writes Emma Chesworth.
The intrepid sportswoman is tackling a gruelling biathlon to raise money for the Bendrigg Trust and Macmillan Cancer Relief.
She will swim the length of Windermere and then kayak the return journey - and she has received great support from friends who have pledged to swim sections of the lake with her.
"I am just praying there's nothing lurking in the murky waters below," joked Melanie.
"I have always enjoyed the challenge of water sports and the added attraction of raising money for two of my favourite charities just makes it more worthwhile."
Melanie is a tutor at Bendrigg, an outdoor pursuits centre for people with special needs.
"My challenge will involve swimming the length of Windermere and kayaking the return journey," added Melanie.
"For some of the people I am involved with, getting into a canoe is a challenge itself."
Melanie aims to complete her watery challenge on September 2.
