TWO rising stars of the planet pop have been attracting attention in high places.

Lancaster lasses Angelica and Furness band 12 Ft Machete have been making great strides in their musical careers thanks to a new government scheme run by community music outfit More Music in Morecambe.

Both Angelica's bassist Brigit Morris-Colton and Richard Kemp with his band 12 Ft Machete have signed up to the New Deal for Musicians - an open learning scheme for 18 to 25-year-olds who have been unemployed for at least six months.

As part of the deal, staff at MMM get together with musicians to work out a training plan and set up regular monthly meetings to help keep them on track.

MMM's Kathryn Macdonald told Off The Record that the scheme gave young musicians the "space to explore the music industry" and to develop their talent without the pressure of having to find a job.

Calling all pop chicks and rock divas.

MMM are currently on the look out for more young musicians keen to take advantage of the New Deal and have made a special plea for more girls to come forward.

So if you fancy yourself as a Cerys, Kylie or a Kelis contact MMM on 01524 831997.
