AN 81-YEAR-OLD woman had to be rescued from the River Kent on Tuesday after she lost control of her disabled
person's scooter and plunged into the river opposite the Millbeck Factory in Kendal.
Two men and a woman answered her calls for help until police and fire crews arrived to get her out.
She was taken to Westmorland General Hospital for a check up although she was not kept in.
The incident has prompted renewed calls for improvements to the riverbank path.
Jean Simpson, who also drives a scooter, is urging South Lakeland District Council to put up a sign saying the path is unsafe for scooter users.
