TRIUMPHANT Netherfield Cricket Club lifted two trophies in the space of 48 hours when they captured the Bay Northern Premier League championship on Saturday and then added the Slater Cup on Sunday.

Netherfield coasted to a nine-wicket win over Darwen to take the Slater Cup in front of a big crowd at Parkside Road.

Darwen set them a target of 184-5 with Jamaican Keith Semple top-scoring on 67 and Gary Jackson, 45, and John Cordingley, 32 not out also in the runs.

In reply, Netherfield were always in charge and South African professional Pieter Strydom made an unbeaten 72 and Tommy Prime was also not out on 46.

Craig Walmsley was the only wicket to fall for 39.

Netherfield had sealed their fourth league title in the last five years with still one match to play on Saturday with a seven-wicket win over Chorley at Windsor Park.

Leg-spinner Marc Hadwin paved the way for the title celebrations to start, taking 5-31 as Chlorley were dismissed for 123, of which 47 came from Tom Smith's bat.

Strydom achieved his target of 1,000 league runs for the season when he scored 45 in Netherfield's innings.

Rain spoiled Kendal's match with Darwen at Shap Road after Gareth Cordingley hit a century in a score of 229-2.

It left both sides with four points apiece - and Netherfield in an unassailable position at the top of the table.
