A SUB-COMMITTEE to decide how Ulverston Town Council will mark the Queen's golden jubilee next year is to be set up.
At this weeks council meeting Coun John Birkett said he would like to see the 1,200 children in the town presented with a crown coin but that when he enquired at the Royal Mint he was shocked to discover that each one would cost £5.
As an alternative he also suggested youngsters could be given a medallion and that the council could ask for sponsorship to cover the cost from the Furness Building Society in the town.
Deputy mayor Dave Miller suggested setting up a sub-committee to discuss it.
He said: "I think we should set up a small group who brings their ideas back to this council and we then include it in the budget for next year."
