WHAT a memorable weekend it was for Netherfield Cricket Club, whose supremacy in the Bay Northern Premier League was underlined as they sealed a league-and-cup double to take two trophies in two days.
The Parkside Road club took their fourth league championship title - all in the past five seasons - with a seven-wicket demolition of third-placed Chorley.
Brimming with confidence from that success, Netherfield then met Darwen in the Slater Cup 24 hours later and the outcome was just as convincing with an emphatic nine-wicket triumph.
For professional Pieter Strydom there was also the personal satisfaction of passing the 1,000-run league landmark when he made 43 on Saturday.
He told the Gazette: "I've been trying to win a trophy with Border back in South Africa for three seasons without luck, so it was great to win two in two days.
"I've really enjoyed myself this summer and this is the best British club I've played at.
"They're a lovely bunch of guys, they really enjoy their cricket and play it hard and that's important.
"There are always good vibes in the dressing-room.
"I think we've got into a winning habit and that has been proven as the season progressed."
