SIR, I am surprised that Mr Frankland (Letters & Opinions, August 24, 'Renumbering of houses') is so concerned about the postmen and their deliveries as he seems to have forgotten the emergency services.
Until recently I worked for the NHS in a job that involved visiting people in their homes, and I frequently wasted valuable time looking for places that had no number or name.
I am now a member of the First Response Group in Arnside which was set up a short time ago, and I know it is a great worry to many of us in the group that when we have a call out we may not be able to find the house we are looking for.
Some months ago Arnside Parish Council, along with South Lakeland District Council, arranged for each house in the village to be given a number.
Since the First Response Group was set up I have walked around the village to familiarise myself with roads I did not already know, and it is clear that many people have not yet numbered their properties.
I do hope that should the First Responders be called to an un-numbered property we are able to find it.
It will be even more difficult now that the dark nights are approaching.
Kath Donaldson, Arnside
