THE THWAITES Cumbria Cup final will be an all northern affair after Kendal A and Kirkby Lonsdale lost their respective semi-finals.
Kendal went down 24-15 to Aspatria, who scored two quick tries in the opening 10 minutes and turned around 24-10 ahead.
Liam Hayton scored a first-half try for Kendal, converted by Mike Scott, who also added a penalty to cut the lead to four points at 14-10, but two more unanswered tries before the break took the wind out of the visitors' sails.
Kendal went on to have the better of the second half and scored the only points through a Mike Burnett try, but could not close the gap.
Aspatria's tries came from David Humes, Stephen Stoddarts and Dannie Kasselman.
Stoddart converted all three and kicked a penalty.
Kirkby Lonsdale did not get much change out of cup-holders Workington who stormed into a 43-0 lead by half time and eventually won 57-7.
Workington will play Aspatria in the final on April 20 at a venue to be announced.
Kendal Thirds meet Aspatria Seconds on Saturday for a place in the Cumberland Challenge Shield final.
The Thirds beating Keswick Seconds 37-14 in the quarter-finals with tries from Dale Lowry, Chris Hill, Steve Woof, Stuart Cartmel and Craig Hine, who kicked three conversions and two penalties.
