THE future funding of Appleby tourist information centre is to be reviewed by the town and district councils.
While Eden District Council covers the running cost of the other TICs in the area, Appleby TIC is run independently.
This means Eden Council only pays a proportion of the running costs, with the town council picking up the deficit.
The forecast cost to the town council for this year, estimated at more than £10,000, has raised concerns among councillors.
The town council is to meet Eden District Council to debate the possibility of handing over the full running of the TIC.
Town mayor Lance Thwaytes said that the proposed change would be of benefit to the town.
"If Eden Council took over the TIC it would release £10,000 from the town council's tax precept which could be spent on other things in Appleby."
No date for the meeting has been announced.
