A YEW tree can be chopped down at The Grange, Arnside, provided that two replacement yews are planted, agreed members of South Lakeland District Council's planning committee.
In a report, they heard a tree preservation order had been made in 1980 covering the grounds of the then Grange View Convalescent Home.
The home had recently been demolished, and 20 new flats and a house were nearing completion.
The tree to be chopped down is growing close to the new building, and planners heard it was sparse-looking, and not a good specimen.
