Kirkby Lonsdale's Queen Elizabeth School is hoping to recruit citizens with memories of the age of ration books and utility to tell their stories to students.
As part of local history week, the secondary school is recalling life in Kirkby Lonsdale during the 1930s and 40s.
History teacher Heather Burkitt said they were seeking people who could give talks to pupils, lend timely artefacts or bunting and Union Jacks.
The project will culminate in a 30s and 40s day on May 4 exhibiting artefacts and the student's history work accompanied by refreshments.
Volunteers can contact Ms Burkitt or Deborah Hartwell in the history department on 015242-71275.
