LEVENS Choir, conducted by Ian Jones, presents a concert of infrequently heard masterpieces at St George's Church, Kendal, on Sunday, April 21, at 7.30pm.
The choir will be joined by the wind and brass players of Lakeland Winds, led by Noel Bertram, in a programme of music exploiting to the full the acoustics of the church - from the sound of four choirs and brass instruments in the four corners of the building performing the 16-part motet Omnes Gentes by Gabrieli, to the intimacy of Thomas Tomkins's unaccompanied anthem in which King David laments the death of his son Absolom, sung from the altar steps.
The concert finishes with Bruckner's setting of the Mass for Choir and Wind Instruments.
Tickets from Specsavers, Stricklandgate, Kendal; Lilian Hine on 015395-67458; or at the door.
