MOVES to boost recycling in South Lakeland made a flying start this week as council workers collected more than five tonnes of waste paper in one day.
Ulverston was the first town to see the introduction of South Lakeland District Council's new "blue box" kerbside paper collection scheme on Monday.
On the first day of collection more than 70 per cent of people participated in the scheme, which will eventually see regular paper collections from 20,000 houses in Kendal, Ulverston and Grange.
