A CUMBRIA county councillor said he was delighted with the response to an Arnside village parking survey which has produced 1,200 replies.
Kent estuary councillor Ian Stewart wanted to find out what local people thought about a proposed one-way system for the village, and potential answers to parking problems around the railway station.
Coun Stewart sent out just over 2,000 questionnaires to every electorate in Arnside, with a freepost envelope for replies, and was impressed with a higher than average response rate of 60 per cent.
Coun Stewart wanted to know whether villagers thought there was a problem with parking and traffic in the village, and if something should be done urgently.
He then went on to ask about specific solutions including the suggested one-way system; a quarter of Station Field being given over to a car park; using a strip of approximately 15 metres of the field as a lay-by to get cars off the road; or whether a car park was needed on the opposite side of the railway station.
Coun Stewart plans to have the results in time for the parish assembly meeting next Thursday, April 25.
The proposed one-way system was first suggested by the Village Society.
The parish council has passed it to the county council for comments, but is still waiting for a response.
Acting parish council chairman Coun David Willacy said: "As far as the one-way system goes it's Cumbria County Council that has to say it's feasible or not.
If they say it's not feasible it's pointless trying to do anything about it."
