Young carpenters from Kendal College had the chance to put their skills to work renovating the scoreboard at Netherfield Cricket Club.
Steve Wilson, head of construction at Kendal College, said: "We are getting pressure to make things happen within the workplace so a project like this is perfect."
Both the college and the cricket club benefited as the students got the experience of working on site, sourcing material and pricing the work and the club got the job done.
Mr Wilson, who plays cricket for both Netherfield and Kendal Cricket Club, said: "Doing it on site rather than in the college has worked out really well for us."
A similar project has been set up to improve seating at Kendal Cricket Club's ground in September.
The trainee joiners are in their second year of a three-year course.
