THE Dales Chamber Orchestra was founded by Xenophon Kelsey, and a major aim of the orchestra is to gain audiences for live music in the dales and moors, and to offer expert training to talented young musicians from around the United Kingdom and abroad.
Their programme this Easter featured two important 20th century works - The Soldiers Tale, by Stravinsky, and William Walton' s Faade.
At the performance in Kirkby Lonsdale Parish Church, the exceptional skill and musicianship of these young players was evident, both works being given authentic style and technical accomplishment.
In particular, mention must be made of the brilliant playing of Danny McCann Williams in the violin part of the Stravinsky, and the humour and character of the two narrators, Kirstin Sharpin and Alex Barclay, in the Faade Suite.
But what a pity the good people of Kirkby Lonsdale largely ignored this splendid concert.
