LINKS between Morecambe and Lancaster railway stations will be substantially improved in the near future, claims the resort's MP.
Geraldine Smith's statement came following a meeting she had with David Kaye, Director of First North Western Trains.
Geraldine said: "We had a most constructive meeting and Mr Kaye responded positively to my proposal that a connection to Morecambe be provided for trains arriving and departing from Lancaster Main Line station."
She said; "It is about time that people travelling to and from the resort were able to take full advantage of the numerous trains that call at Lancaster.
A well publicised regular rail/road shuttle service operating throughout the day would enable them to do so."
Ms Smith stated that she would be arranging further talks with the company and other interested parties early in June, to progress this issue and to consider a possible bid for funding for improvements to the Lancaster/Morecambe&Heysham line.
The MP said that she had also discussed the many complaints she had received about the Lancaster-Barrow service.
She added: "I received an assurance that the situation was being closely monitored and that passengers could look forward to significant improvements in the punctuality, safety and cleanliness of their trains."
