MILNTHORPE Corinthians were guaranteed a promotion place this week and are still bidding for a magnificent trophy treble.
A 2-0 win over Whinney Hill on Tuesday sealed their elevation to West Lancs League premier division status, but only after Corinthians' nerves had been tested with a 3-2 defeat by Wigan SMR on Saturday.
Lee Blamire's diving header from Craig Walmsley's free kick put Corinthians ahead against Whinney Hill on the half hour.
After the Milnthorpe side hit the woodwork and had several near-misses, David Shaw rifled in a second goal through a melee of players to seal victory.
Another win - they are at home to Hesketh Bank on Saturday - would seal the championship to go with their two cup successes, but Wigan delayed progress in a 3-2 defeat that ended Corinthians' run of 17 straight victories.
Lee Watson struck twice in the space of five minutes to cancel out Wigan's unsettling early goal and put his side ahead, rifling in from 12 yards and then netting with a close-range header.
After equalising from the penalty spot, Wigan made a goal-line clearance and were saved by the woodwork before breaking upfield to grab an injury-time winner.
