A FORMER solicitor from London who moved to the Ulverston area three years ago has launched a new business venture to fill a gap in the footwear market, reports Zoe Casson.
Since moving to Penny Bridge Hall at Penny Bridge in 1998, after her husband, Mark, inherited the estate, Laura Southern, 38, has been considering setting up a new business.
She said she had realised it was difficult to find a pair of high quality shoes in the area and that people were having to travel to London or Manchester to find a pair.
Mrs Southern's new venture allows people to call at her home to choose from a wide range of women's European shoes, which are on display.
The shoes are imported from Italy, Spain and Austria and range from loafers and mules to those needed for a special occasion, such as bridal footwear.
The mother-of-two said: "It is quite daunting setting up the business but I believe there is a gap in the market in this area for women's quality shoes, so I am hoping people will
get to hear about it by word-of-mouth.
"People can call at the house by appointment or they can also contact me and ask what styles I have got and what sizes before they come or I can even take the shoes to them for them to have a look.
"I want it to be relaxing and enjoyable for people instead of trailing around numerous shops."
