A BID to try to capture the world speed record for electric boats can go ahead on Coniston Water after members of the Lake District National Park Authority's implementation committee agreed in principle.
Team Lightning Strike! is to make the attempt on the 50mph record later this year.
Several members were concerned the move could send out "mixed messages" because LDNPA turned down an exemption to the 10mph speed limit on Windermere to allow the annual records week to go ahead, but they were told the Coniston byelaws were designed to permit official record attempts.
