A MOTHER who spearheaded a campaign to save Kendal's Helme Chase Maternity Unit from closure was named a runner-up in a national citizens award.
Nicola Kaye, of Kendal, who was one of ten nominees to have been short-listed for an Oyster Award, narrowly missed scooping the top honour.
Mrs Kaye was nominated by Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Collins.
The awards were organised by Camelot to reward unsung heroes.
