FUNDS are needed to restore a vandalised stone sculpture originally created by young people to mark the Millennium.
The circular feature in Ambleside's Rothay Park has had to be dismantled amid health and safety concerns after the support structures were damaged, making it unstable.
County Coun Anne Parker, who represents Ambleside, suspects the damage was done by something like a sledgehammer.
Explaining that the parts had been placed in storage, she said: "I now have the problem of getting some money together to get it reinstated because I think that's what the young people would want."
Four youth group members helped create the sculpture in 2000 under the artistic supervision of Becky Heaton-Cooper and Sally Toms, and each part of it had a symbolic meaning.
A buried time capsule, and the circle of stones surrounding the site remain intact.
