A PUBLIC meeting about plans to route a new pipeline along the road through Arnside attracted scores of residents who fear major disruptions to village life.
Earlier that day United Utilities had held an exhibition of the planned £8million sewerage system, but during the meeting the WI Hall was overflowing with residents and traders, concerned that key roads in Arnside would be closed during works or reduced to single lanes.
County coun for Arnside Ian Stewart said: "I think they United Utilities were surprised by the strength of opposition.
The room was packed.
They heard what we had to say, let's hope they listen."
United Utilities is expected to report back in about a month, and parish council chairman Dave Willacy said he hoped to see an amended plan, crucially avoiding the proposed four-week closure of Sandside Road from Guard Hill to Friarcote Bridge.
