Kendal Ramblers are leading a walk for families as part of a national Welcome to Walking Week.

The walk will be to 'The Mushroom' at Scout Scar starting from Kendal Town Hall at 11am this Sunday, September 22.

The route will keep off roads as far as possible taking in Castle Howe, Serpentine Woods, The Golf Course, and Cunswick Scar.

The aim is to attract people who are not used to walking.

We plan to make the walk fun for children and to provide adults with the thrill of getting to the top of a hill.

The views from the top of the golf course are breath-taking.

Walking is good for health.

This is especially topical at the moment with talk of an increasing number of people being over-weight.

It reduces the chance of heart trouble especially for people with sedentary jobs.

Walking is one of the best ways of dealing with the stresses of modern living.

Contact with nature can give an extraordinary sense of wonder and wellbeing.

The walk also is taking place in Car Free Week.

Starting in the middle of Kendal means that our walk doesn't require a drive to the start of the walk.

The work of the Ramblers will also be described.

Foot-and-Mouth demonstrated beyond doubt that a good network of footpaths is essential for the tourist industry and the local economy.

Ramblers work to keep paths open and hazard-free.
