NORTH Ferriby club officials were desperately trying to get Saturday's FA cup tie called off at half-time, said Kendal Town manger Peter Smith.

Reduced to 10-men and a goal down they hoped that Kendal would be unable to find a replacement for the linesman who pulled a calf muscle just before half time.

Smith said that the 45 minute wait for a resumption also did his side no favours.

"We had played well in the first half, but we didn't in the second and Ferriby are a good side even with a man short," he said.

"But we had a little bit of luck with the penalty at the end and that is often what games are all about.

"I would have preferred a home tie in the next round, but I believe we can go to Altrincham and get a result.

They may be a UniBond Premier Division side, but we will play attacking football and take the game to them."

Before that, however, Smith's men have two league matches to get through.

Tomorrow they travel to Bamber Bridge and although Bridge are near to the bottom of the division Smith says they will be a difficult team to beat.

"I know their manager and the way they play.

They will get a lot of men behind the ball and rely on lucky breakaways, but we will just have to keep attacking and break the defence down," said Smith.

On Tuesday Bishop Auckland visit Parkside and Smith says he will be calling for extra efforts from his team to to add more points to Town's sparkling start to the season.
