THE birth of a fluffy baby barn owl at Leighton Hall has prompted hopes that more young birds will follow.
Gillow, the offspring of Solly and Elsa, hatched on August 19, becoming the first bird to be born at the stately home near Carnforth.
Although it is too early to tell whether the bird is male or female, the eight-week old bird is already showing signs of developing an adventurous and curious personality.
Denise Barrow, Leighton Hall's resident falconer, is hand-rearing young Gillow, which was named after the historic home's connection with the famous Gillow furniture making family.
"He is the first owl to be born at Leighton, and is confirmation that the birds have settled down well into their new aviaries," she said.
"I am hopeful that this is the beginning of a very successful breeding programme."
