KENDAL bus users want more services through the town centre, according to a traffic survey of more than 12,000 Kendal homes.
As part of an on-going campaign to improve public transport in the town, local Liberal Democrats asked for local views of Kendal traffic system and the bus network.
One of the main concerns raised by 23 per cent of bus users was the distance between the shops and the main bus station and 25 per cent said they would use the bus not the car if bus services were improved.
Since the survey was carried out Stagecoach has indicated it plans to bring more buses through the town centre but local Lib Dems said they would continue to lobby for more access to buses and improvements for disabled access.
Liberal Democrat Spokesman for Westmorland and Lonsdale Tim Farron said: "We are pleased that Stagecoach has now agreed to alter two more of their services by returning to stopping near the town hall.
This will make life much more convenient for shoppers and workers and will help the general economy of
Kendal while maintaining
the improved shopping environment of Strick-landgate."
The results of the survey will be passed on to Cumbria county councillors who are set to make a decision about the future of the traffic experiment this October.
