PLANS to convert the first floor of Walkers Boathouse, Ferry Nab, Bowness, into a holiday flat have upset some members of Windermere Parish Council.
Coun Frank Sanderson was opposed to the roof being raised to accommodate the flat and added: "These boathouses are part of the vista of Windermere and we have got to conserve them." He was supported by Coun John Morphet, who said Ferry Nab was Bowness's traditional boating area and dinghies had been built there for generations.
"We would be creating a precedent if this goes through," he said.
"It would be detrimental to the general well-being of the area and it should remain commercial." Councillors agreed to recommend refusal of the plan to the Lake District National Park Authority, which has the final say.
