THE Westmorland Gazette shop in Kendal has ceased its large scale mapping service on behalf of the Ordnance Survey.
The Gazette has acted as a large scale mapping agency for Ordnance Survey since the 1960s, and most recently offered OS Superplans, Landplans and Siteplans used by professionals such as architects, surveyors, estate agents and solicitors as well as people drawing up certain types of planning applications.
Gazette shop manager Keith Armstrong said a combination of reasons, including new Ordnance Survey increased revenue targets and the proposed redevelopment of the Westmorland Gazette site, had led to the decision to end the agency.
"We have had a long-term relationship with Ordnance Survey which has been successful for both parties over the years and I am sorry that it is coming to an end," said Mr Armstrong.
The Gazette shop on Stricklandgate will continue to stock small scale OS maps as well as local books, stationery and Made in Cumbria products.
Henry Roberts book shop on Stramongate, Kendal, took over as the OS large scale mapping agent for the area this week.
