PLENTY of flair from Kendal was not enough to prevent Doncaster using their powerful forwards as a battering-ram to open up the home defence for a four tries- to-three victory.

Centre Ian Voortman produced a scintillating 60-metre try down the left flank in the first half, but Doncaster hit back with two tries through Matt Walker and Ali Sherlock and a penalty.

Kendal only leaked three points while South African scrum-half Dumile Jijana was sinbinned and Steve Healey raced over for a second superb Kendal try, converted by Mike Scott, to close the gap to three points.

However, Doncaster hit back with a penalty and then stand-off Rob Lilley went over for a try after a long kick to touch as the visitors went 28-15 ahead.

Kendal forced their way up field but could not maintain the momentum and settled for a penalty.

Down to 14 men again with Healey sinbinned, Doncaster's forward power allowed Chris Conway to scoot over from a maul for a fourth try.

In stoppage time, Voortman's breakout set up replacement Paul Dodds for a chip and chase.

After he was obstructed, Kendal scored a third try from a tap and drive but it was too late to alter the result.

Final score Kendal 23, Doncaster 35.
