The 2002 Saints Best Tourism Web Site Competition closed on 30 June, 2002, and the winners have been announced as -
Serviced Accommodation: Hollows Farm - www.hollowsfarm.co.uk, Non-serviced Accommodation:Windermere Marina Village - www.wmv.co.uk and Attractions, Activity Holidays and other Tourism Operators: Newlands Adventure Centre - www.activity.centre.com.,
This Cumbrian competition was developed by Chartered Accountants Saint & Co.
in order to encourage tourism businesses to reap the huge benefits to be derived from using the Internet.
It was run in 2001 in association with Cumbria Tourist Board.
Unfortunately, due to the Tourist Board's direct involvement in the Excellence in England Tourism Website of the Year Award launched by the English Tourism Council they have had to withdraw from the awards this year.
The judges were Nicos Souleles, Multmedia Design and Digital Animation Course Leader at Cumbria Institute of the Arts; Julian Whittle, Business Editor with Cumbrian Newspapers Group and Cyndy Potter, Chartered Accountant specialising in the hospitality industry with Saint & Co.
The entries in 2002 showed a great improvement in the sophistication, content and overall design of sites.
There was evidence of an increase in the number of smaller businesses with their own web site with a unique domain name.
The awards will be presented to the winners at a dinner to be held on 30 October 2002.
