A RECENT survey, coinciding with Nation Drivers Safety Week, found that 16% of drivers have vision below the required standard.
Drivers need good eyesight to read road signs, to change lane and must be able to read a standard number plate from 20 metres by law.
Moves are afoot to bring the UK in line with Germany, where drivers must have their eyes tested every two years and if they wear spectacles or contact lenses, must carry a spare pair with them as a condition of their motor insurance.
Glare, caused by the sun or by car headlights at night, poses extra driving hazards.
But sunglasses (made to almost any prescription) and ' Anti Reflection Lenses' could help.
So, if you drive, for your own safety and that of others, have your eyes tested regularly.
In connection with Drivers Safety week Conlon's Opticians is offering one reader of the South Lakes Citizen a chance to win a Giorgio Armani or Moschino frame with Carl Zeiss Anti Reflection Lenses, with a Skylet Road tint to their prescription, worth up to £ 500.
All you have to do to enter the competition is answer the question, fill in the entry coupon and send it to: Conlon Optician Competition, South Lakes Citizen, 22 Stricklandgate, Kendal LA9 4NE, to arrive by first post next Tuesday.
