ROMNEY Repro, on show at Kendal's Signature Gallery, ties in with Kendal Windows on Art and is part of the Romney bi-centenary celebrations, with the Romney Society giving an award for the painting deemed to capture the spirit of Romney's work in some special way.
Richard Light and his Three Friends Planning a Journey Across the Lakes, inspired by Romney's Four Friends (exhibited at Abbot Hall), landed the accolade.
Kendal designer Nicki Smith also impressed the society, coming runner-up with her slick series of screenprinted images in a circular motif decorating a scarf, handbag and plate, this time inspired by Romney's painting of a young Lady Hamilton.
Repro runs at Peter Blaskett's arthouse, at Kirkland, until October 5.
