REHEARSALS began this Wednesday for the Westmorland Orchestra's new season.
Fifty dedicated amateur musicians from all over Cumbria and North Lancashire launched into a fresh campaign on a special note - conductor Barry Sharkey's 30th year.
As well as Barry celebrating three decades carrying the baton, orchestra leader John Upson notches up his 15th year.
Although the first concert is not until November 30, members of the orchestra join other musicians to tackle Bartok's challenging Concerto for Orchestra at a study day at Sedbergh School on Sunday, October 6, conducted again by Christopher Fifield, who makes his third appearance with the massed orchestral ranks.
The public are welcome to attend the run through at 5.15pm (no charge).
Violinists who fancy a bash at playing Bartok should ring the orchestra's secretary Christine Pratt on 015394- 44999.
Christine is also interested in hearing from viola and brass players as well as violinists to join the 'wonderful' Westmorland.
