Bamber Bridge 1-Kendal Town 0.

EVERY team has an off day and this was it for Kendal Town, whose lack-lustre show against lowly Bamber Bridge wasted an opportunity to go top of the UniBond League First Division.

The Irongate ground remained firmly shut to Town's attack as the team inexplicably lacked the accustomed drive and determination that has served them well in the early season.

A fifth-minute header by Lee Blamire fell straight into the arms of former Kendal Town stopper Cyril Sharrock and that was the closest Peter Smith's men came in the entire match.

Bamber Bridge's towering 6ft 7in striker Stuart Honor put his side ahead on 27 minutes when he was predicatably the target for a floated free-kick.

Kendal keeper Lee Ward declined to challenge the cross and Honor headed home.

In the second half, the hosts' playmaker Stuart Clitheroe shot narrowly over on 51 minutes after cutting in from the right and two minutes later Honor fired powerfully on the turn only for Ward to pluck the ball out of the air with a good reaction save.

At the other end Craig Walmsley had every reason to feel hard done by when he looked to have been impeded as he was advancing into the Bamber Bridge area.

The referee allowed play to continue, however.

Kendal struggled to create chances, losing possession too often to cause the home defence any kind of problems.

Although Jamie Close persevered, his best run ended when he was tripped on the edge of the area.

He also had the best chance to salvage a point 10 minutes from time, but failed to connect to David Foster's deep cross.
