CONCERNS are growing after a notorious stretch of road in South Lakeland was the scene of yet another traffic accident on Tuesday morning.

Two cars were involved in the crash at the accident blackspot on the A65 at Spital Farm, just east of Lupton.

Fire crews from Kendal and Kirkby Lonsdale attended the accident, which involved a green Landrover Discovery driven by a 43-year-old Ingleton man, and an Audi 80 which was being driven by a 43-year old Hutton Roof woman.

The road was blocked for two hours as fire fighters worked to release the female driver, who sustained neck and rib injuries.

Her passenger, a 30-year-old woman from Arkholme, suffered lower back injuries.

They were both taken to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary, where they were treated and discharged.

The male driver escaped unhurt.

Police said none of those involved agreed for their names to be released to the Press.

The A65 has been the focus of a tireless campaign by residents who live in the area and by Preston Patrick Parish Council.

In May, Lancaster woman Lynne Curwen died when her motorcycle was in collision with an HGV near Spital Farm.

Preston Patrick parish councillor Cath Davenport is one of the residents who has been trying to lower the speed limit to 40mph through Nook and Cow Brow for the past seven years.

She said that since May, there had been about 12 accidents on the notorious stretch of road, which is narrow and winding.

As a result of residents' concerns, the Highways Agency has been carrying out a series of speed checks on the A65 this month, which it will discuss with police to see if speed restrictions are necessary.
