KENDAL TOWN went down fighting in their FA Cup Second Qualifying Round match with UniBond Premier Division opponents Altrincham.
Kendal won a series of early corners and from their third a goalbound shot from Ian Simpson was deflected out.
On 264 minutes Craig Walmsley, who had a goodf game for Town put in a cross which the diving Lee Blamire headed into the net but, as he was just offside.
Just before half time Altrincham's Danny Murphy connect with a good volley but Lee Ward saved it comfortably.
On 50 minutes Kendal had a narrow escape when a shot from from 25 yards smashed against the right-hand upright.
They responded with Hayton, Walmsley and Simpson combining well before Rose cleared the danger.
A fine ball from McDonald over the Kendal defence set up Craney for a well-struck half-volley which Ward saved superbly.
On 72 minute Ward appeared to have punched clear Scott's cross from the right only for the ball to hit the challenging Young and rebound into the net.
Immediately Foster replaced Simpson for Kendal and player-manager Smith came on for Jamie Close
Foster then skied a shot well over the Alty bar before Phoenix foolishly pushed over Smith from behind and was dismissed for a second yellow card offence.
Stuart Cliff replaced Blamire and with a one-man advantage Kendal mounted more pressure and a Walmsley cross just evaded the unmarked Foster on the six-yard line.
